Regis concentrates his practice on complex intellectual property litigation, patent prosecution, trade secret litigation, IP due diligence, preparation of validity and non-infringement opinions, and contract/licensing issues. He assists clients in a variety of technology industries to protect and enforce their technologies, including sensors, medical devices, manufacturing equipment, software and computer hardware, and consumer electronics. He is a registered patent attorney and has experience with various proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Prior to joining the firm, Regis served as IP counsel with a global, full-service law firm. Before entering the legal field, Regis founded a forensic consulting company and testified as a forensic and biomechanical engineering expert witness in dozens of trials, arbitrations, and depositions.
As a licensed professional engineer, Regis is also a Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He currently serves as a Regional Commanding Officer in the Naval Sea Systems Command, overseeing seven units and over 200 personnel. Over several tours of service, he has helped to addressed waste, fraud, abuse, and misconduct issues at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, led operations of a $9.1 billion infrastructure program in Afghanistan, and has emergency maritime response and salvage experience.
Regis earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his M.S., also in mechanical engineering, from San Diego State University. He earned his J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where he graduated summa cum laude and was editor-in-chief of the Thomas Jefferson Law Review. Regis's pro bono legal services includes representing veterans and asylum-seekers.
