David focuses his practice on sophisticated estate planning and wealth transfer strategies for high-net-worth individuals, families, family offices, and business owners. With more than 20 years of wealth management experience, including 15 years as an attorney, he helps clients preserve and transfer wealth while advancing their personal, business, and philanthropic objectives.
David advises on a wide range of private client matters, including estate and gift tax planning, trust and estate administration, charitable giving, fiduciary issues, and business succession planning. He has significant experience developing tax-efficient trust structures for closely held businesses and multigenerational families, as well as counseling family offices on complex planning and administration matters.
Prior to joining Cozen O'Connor, David practiced in the Private Wealth Planning Section of a full-service Minneapolis-based law firm, where he counseled clients on estate planning, wealth transfer, trust and estate administration, charitable planning, and fiduciary disputes. Earlier in his career, he served as a vice president and trust officer for national banking institutions, working closely with individual and corporate fiduciaries on trust and estate administration.
Licensed in Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin, David has served as an elected member of the Probate and Trust Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association and a frequent presenter for Minnesota Continuing Legal Education. He earned his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law and his bachelor's degree from Augustana College. Outside of his practice, David is active in the Twin Cities arts community as a musician, volunteer, and supporter.
