It is with deep sadness that Cozen O’Connor shares news of the passing of our friend and colleague Brian Flaherty. Brian was a trial lawyer who handled complex commercial cases. He represented clients in a wide range of commercial litigation and other disputes, including disputes arising out of dissolutions of partnerships; complex contractual disputes; RICO and Securities Act litigation; product liability and insurance matters; and Orphans' Court litigation, among other things. He also handled criminal matters, particularly in the field of health care, representing health care providers and service and product suppliers subject to anti-kickback, fraud and abuse investigations and prosecutions. He tried many cases in Pennsylvania and elsewhere in federal and state courts, and handled numerous arbitration matters.
Brian was a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and was listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the field of Commercial Litigation. He was active in the Philadelphia Bar Association and served as chair of its Professional Guidance Committee. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Legal Ethics & Professional Responsibility Committee.
Brian earned his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1978 and his undergraduate degree from Franklin and Marshall College in 1975.
