Lucy Aquino authored the Expert Analysis Column “8 Insurer Takeaways From Sweeping Georgia Tort Reform” for Law360.

Lucy focuses her practice on commercial litigation, insurance coverage, and appellate advocacy. She has broad experience representing corporate clients and national insurers across the hospitality, construction, transportation, and retail industries, and is increasingly called upon to handle high-stakes appeals in both state and federal courts.

Lucy is particularly passionate about appellate practice and has briefed and argued appeals arising from a wide range of substantive areas, including insurance coverage disputes, premises liability/negligent security, and complex commercial litigation. She brings a strategic and detail-oriented approach to appellate matters, which often involve procedural and dispositive issues with far-reaching implications for insurers, business owners, and transportation professionals alike.

In her broader litigation practice, Lucy manages all stages of complex matters, including class actions and multidistrict litigation. She has defended corporations, retailers, business owners, and insurance companies against various personal injury, property, and contract claims. She also represents clients in construction-related disputes and advises on contract performance and risk mitigation to identify and prevent future litigation.

Lucy’s insurance coverage work includes representing commercial general liability, professional liability, excess/umbrella liability, and property insurers in complex litigation nationwide. She has significant experience litigating both first-and third-party bad faith claims, including those arising from alleged negligent failure to settle within policy limits. She regularly advises insurers on issues such as construction defect, builder’s risk, product liability, additional insured obligations, and priority of coverage.

Prior to joining the firm, Lucy was an associate at two Georgia-based firms litigation firms and held in-house roles at a national insurance carrier, where she gained firsthand experience as a claims adjuster and compliance analyst—experience that informs her pragmatic and client-focused approach to litigation and coverage matters.

Lucy earned her bachelor's degree in political science and business administration from the University of Central Florida and her J.D., cum laude, from Georgia State University College of Law. She is fluent in Brazilian Portuguese.
