Assembly Speaker Endorses Mamdani for Mayor

New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie has endorsed Zohran Mamdani for Mayor of New York City. Heastie followed Governor Hochul, who endorsed Mamdani in early September. Although Mamdani won the Democratic primary overall, Andrew Cuomo was the victor in the Bronx in the June primary. During his endorsement speech, Heastie noted that affordability is a major issue for Black voters in the Bronx. An up-to-date list of all mayoral endorsements are available here.

Special Election for Assembly District 115

Governor Hochul has announced that the special election to fill the vacancy in the 115th Assembly District will take place on Tuesday, November 4, aligning with the general election. Assemblymember Billy Jones, who held the position since 2017, exited the legislature this summer to take a position at Clinton Community College. State Police Commander Brent Davison (R) and Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Michael Cashman (D) are both running for the position.

Pilot Program Launches to Support Struggling NYC Co-ops

Mayor Adams and Attorney General Tish James launched the HDFC Cooperative Technical Assistance Program (CTAP) a new pilot program to support struggling Housing Development Fund Corporation (HDFC) cooperatives in NYC. CTAP is funded through settlement funds obtained by the Attorney General’s office. The program will provide HDFC co-ops with technical assistance to improve their financial, operational, and physical health.
